Dancehall veteran Powerman is mourning the death of his 25-year-old son, Christopher Davey, who was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn, New York, on Friday, September 4.
According to the Jamaica Observer and U.S. reporting, Davey was attacked in the East Flatbush area during the early evening. New York police said he was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police searching for two suspects
The New York Police Department is searching for two suspects in connection with the killing. U.S. reporting said the men fled the area following the attack. No arrests had been announced at the time of publication, and police have not publicly identified a motive.
Powerman, whose given name is Michael Davey, told the Jamaica Observer that his son had been sent to a nearby laundry by his mother before becoming involved in an altercation close to Church and Albany avenues.
The artiste said two men were involved in the confrontation and alleged that they were armed with a knife and cutlass. That detail comes from Powerman’s account; police have not publicly confirmed the full circumstances of the confrontation.
Investigators were reviewing surveillance footage as they worked to establish what led to the stabbing and identify those responsible.
Second son lost in 16 months
The death comes approximately 16 months after Powerman lost another son. The Observer reported that his 32-year-old son died in May 2025 in what was described as a case of misadventure.
Speaking with the publication at the Brooklyn crime scene, Powerman said the second loss in such a short period had left him struggling to process the grief.
Powerman’s dancehall career
Powerman emerged during the 1990s dancehall era and was an original member of the Monster Shack Crew. He also developed ties with the Shocking Vibes camp and recorded songs including Next, Statue, Serious Thing and Wrong Sound.
The investigation into Christopher Davey’s killing remains active. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the case to contact police.
