A judge in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court has approved a request from the police to keep popular content creator Jaii Frais, legally known as Jhaedee Richards, in custody as investigations continue into a shooting incident at the Big Wall event on Sunday night.

Richards, who is being represented by attorney Isat Buchanan, remains in police custody and is expected to undergo additional questioning as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Under Jamaican law, authorities are permitted to detain a person for up to 48 hours without formally laying charges. However, they may seek a court order to extend that detention if more time is required for investigations. At the same time, a detainee, through legal representation, can apply to the court to compel the police to either charge them or release them.

At this stage, no charges have been filed against Richards, as law enforcement officials say the matter remains under active investigation.

The incident occurred at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew during the popular Big Wall carnival after-party. Reports indicate that the violence unfolded around 9:30 p.m., when a dispute broke out among patrons at the event. The altercation quickly escalated into gunfire, with two individuals reportedly exchanging shots.

When the shooting ended, three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. They were rushed to hospital for treatment, with reports indicating that at least one of the injured individuals was later discharged and taken into custody, while the others remain hospitalized.

Richards was among those injured. His injuries have been described as non-life-threatening, with reports suggesting he sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Early accounts suggest that the situation may have stemmed from a confrontation involving multiple individuals. Some reports indicate that Richards may have been involved in a struggle during which a firearm was discharged, though investigators are still working to confirm the sequence of events.

Police have since recovered two firearms believed to be connected to the shooting. Authorities have also taken another individual into custody in relation to the incident, though his identity has not been disclosed as investigations continue.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has assigned the Half-Way Tree Criminal Investigation Branch to lead the probe. Detectives are currently gathering statements, reviewing evidence, and attempting to determine the exact roles of those involved.

Meanwhile, organizers of the Big Wall event have expressed concern over the incident, describing it as an isolated occurrence that does not reflect the event’s history. In a public statement, they emphasized their commitment to the safety of patrons and confirmed that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement.

The shooting has raised renewed concerns about security at large entertainment events, particularly during the carnival season, as authorities continue their efforts to piece together what led to the outbreak of violence.

Investigations remain ongoing.
