Dancehall music producer Linval “Shab Don” Thompson Jr. has been acquitted in a high-profile bribery case in Jamaica, ending a trial that began on February 19, 2026.
The presiding judge found significant inconsistencies in the prosecution’s evidence, particularly with the testimony of two of the four witnesses, and determined that the state had not proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, Thompson was found not guilty of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act in relation to the alleged attempted bribe.
The charge stemmed from an October 2021 incident in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, where police reportedly stopped a vehicle Thompson was in and discovered a firearm. Prosecutors had claimed he offered an officer JMD $2 million to have the weapon removed and suppress evidence before the search took place.
Represented by attorney Donahue Martin, Shab Don walked free after the ruling. Martin confirmed that his client had been cleared of the corruption allegation and was no longer facing conviction on that matter.
While this case has concluded, Thompson still faces separate legal issues. He remains in custody and is scheduled to stand trial in the St. James Circuit Court on charges related to a triple-murder incident from 2022.
