Taxi Operator Killed Among Passengers in St James
Detectives from the St James Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are probing the brazen, daylight murder of 51-year-old taxi operator, David Hylton, who was shot by a gunman posing as a passenger in the parish on Friday.
Reports are that about 8:20 a.m., the taxi driver who was of Rhyne Park Village in the parish, was travelling with passengers, including teachers and students, when he stopped to let off a male along the roadway in a section of Rhyne Park.
Hylton was about to hand the passenger his change, when the passenger brandished a handgun and shot the taxi operator twice to the back of his head before exiting the vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot.
After the vicious gun attack, the injured cabbie remained upright in his seat with the money he was handling still in one of his his hands.
He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
No motive has yet been established for the attack.
