Police Officer ‘Accidentally’ Shoots Colleague During Operation in Portland
Both the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) have launched probes into the reported accidental shooting of a male police constable by one of his colleagues in Portland on Sunday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred during a police operation in the Oliviere Housing Scheme in Buff Bay.
The constable, who reportedly received a gunshot wound to his head, underwent emergency surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) on Sunday afternoon.
He remains hospitalised in serious condition.
Reports are that about 5:45 a.m., a police team was on an operation searching a premises in the community in search of gunmen.
It is understood that during the search, a district constable had an accidental discharge of his firearm. The bullet from his weapon ricocheted and caught the other constable.
The injured lawman was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital and later airlifted to the KPH for emergency surgery.
