Man Shot Dead by Gunman in Washington Gardens in St Andrew
A man was shot and killed in the community of Washington Gardens in St Andrew, which caused residents to appeal to the police to maintain their presence in an effort to reduce criminal activities, which has been on a rise for some time now.
The deceased man has been identified only as ‘Akeem’, who was said to be on his way to work when he was shot dead on Harwood Drive early Tuesday morning.
Reports are that Akeem, who was a resident of Mansfield Avenue, was travelling by foot along Harwood Drive towards Washington Boulevard in an effort to get to his job when he approached by unknown assailants who attempted to rob him. However, Akeem resisted and was subsequently shot.
The injured man was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The police were alerted and quickly arrived on the scene to process the area for clues, while residents stood and watch in shock.
One very deeply upset female onlooker made the remark that the deceased did not deserve to die for he did nothing wrong to no one, “Look how dem kill off Akeem and him nuh do nobody anything,” she said while the police were busy carrying out their investigations.
It is understood the Washington Gardens community have been plagued by violent activities, stemming from neighbouring communities.
