Man Shot Dead allegedly by Law Enforcement Officers in Standpipe, St Andrew
Some residents from the Standpipe community and surrounding areas in St Andrew are currently protesting the shooting death of a man Monday night, allegedly by law enforcement officers.
According to reports, residents from the Standpipe community heard a loud explosion shortly after a police unit made their way into the community.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 pm in the vicinity of Confidence Lane in the parish.
According to eyewitness accounts, a group of police officers was observed placing a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle, shortly after the shot rang out.
This did not sit well with the community members who reportedly attacked the police officers and removed the injured man from the vehicle, to take him to the hospital.
The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The details surrounding the incident is still unclear. However, persons from the community decided to stage a fiery protest along sections of Old Hope Road which stemmed from the US Embassy to an area close to the Chest Hospital.
A strong police presence has been put in place in the area to maintain order and to remove the debris.
