Man Chopped to Death after Fatal Machete Attack in Yallahs
Enraged residents of a community in Yallahs, St Thomas hacked a man who is believed to be of unsound mind to death on Thursday after he reportedly staged a crazed machete attack on a family, killing one man and injuring two other persons.
The victim of the mob killing has been identified as Sullan Grinnell, 23, while his fatal victim has been identified as 24-year-old labourer, Jerval Walker. Both men resided in the community of Mount George.
The police reported that Walker was at home with his two nephews, when a crazed Grinnell broke down the door to the house and launched an attack on the trio. All three occupants of the house where chopped multiple times by Grinnell, who then fled the scene.
Walker and both boys were rushed to hospital, where Walker was pronounced dead. The other two victims were admitted in serious condition.
In the aftermath of the attack, a frothing mob launched a search for the attacker and corralled Grinell in an abandoned building. Taking justice into their own hands, the mob pounced on the accused man and hacked him to death.
The police, who order the removal of Grinell’s remains to the morgue for a post-mortem examination, are investigating both attacks.
