Alleged Car Thief Shot Dead in Spanish Town, St Catherine
The Communications arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has reported that a man was shot and killed while allegedly attempting to steal a motor car in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Reports are that the incident occurred at approximately 11:45 pm on Thursday when two men reportedly broke into the home of a police officer in an attempt to steal a vehicle from the premises, but their efforts were foiled by the officer who confronted them.
According to the officer’s accounts, he was fired at when he approached the would-be robbers. However, he managed to make evasive manoeuvres and return fire, hitting one of the men.
The other robber allegedly ran from the scene after observing that his accomplice was hit.
The Spanish Town police were alerted and when they arrived on the scene, one man was found dead.
The names of both the deceased and the officer have not yet been disclosed as the matter is currently being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigation.
