3-y-o Girl Killed in July 2016 to Get Justice, Killer Pleads Guilty
A man charged with the killing of a three-year-old child two years ago, pleaded guilty to her murder in the St Ann Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Alexus Newland, alias ‘Dal Dal’, of Milford in St Ann, was charged with the gruesome killing of Nevalesia Campbell in July 2016, following investigations by the police.
After over two years in police custody, Newland, who was 19 years old at the time of the offence, pleaded guilty to the child’s murder.
He is to be sentenced on Friday, November 2 by High Court Judge, Justice Marcia Dunbar-Green.
Reports are that on Sunday, July 10, 2016, the body of Nevalesia Campbell was found with several wounds in bushes in Orange Hill district near Brown’s Town in St Ann.
It was also alleged that the child was sexually assaulted.
Alleged are that Nevalesia went missing the night before after her mother, Mahalia Poyser, and her boyfriend, Roy Downs – both of Orange Hill – left the girl and her twin brother home alone to attend a party.
It was during that time that Nevalesia was taken from the house and killed.
Both parents were later charged with various breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act, and Newland, who was a suspect, was subsequently charged with the murder of the child.
