20-y-o Gregory Park ‘Gang Leader’ Shot Dead by the Police
The police have reported that the reputed gang leader of the Compound gang, based in the Gregory Park area of St Catherine was shot and killed by police officers during an alleged confrontation.
News of the leader’s death came just a day after the community was placed under curfew due to an increase in violent activities in the area.
Dead is 20-year-old Demar Montaque, better known in the community as ‘Eddie’.
Reports are that Montaque was shot and killed at approximately 5:30 pm in the Waterford Community in the parish on Wednesday by police officers on patrol.
A .40 Smith and Wesson pistol and a .38 revolver was seized during the operation, along with a magazine containing nine rounds of ammunition.
The notorious area leader who was wanted for shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, after a previous run-in with law enforcement officers, was killed today after a second confrontation, where he allegedly engaged the officers in a shootout.
Montaque was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are currently investigating to determine the legality of the killing.
