Three Children Died After Their House Caught on Fire in Kingston
Three children were burnt to death in a fire that gutted a house in the community of Cockburn Gardens, Kingston 13 on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as one-year-old twins – Juvaughne and Jivaughne Bennett – and three-year-old Krisante Maxwell, all of Booby Drive in the parish.
Reports are that about 12:50 a.m., six children were left in the care of an 18-year-old female.
Information circulating is that the teen then left the five children in the care of her 13-year-old sibling.
It is alleged that the 13 year old lit a candle which engulfed two dwelling houses on the premises; she however managed to remove two of the children from the house.
The Police and fire departments were contacted and the charred remains of Juvaughne, Jivaughne and Krisante were found in the back room of the house.
The other two children that were taken from the house were hospitalized in serious condition.
The scene was processed and the charred remains removed to the morgue pending post mortem examinations.
Damage is estimated at JMD 3.3 million.
The 18-year-old woman has since been taken into custody.
