Residents Clash with Police Officers after ‘Gunman’ Shot Dead

A man was shot dead by police in downtown Kingston on Monday morning after allegedly shooting and injuring three persons.

Reports from the Darling Street police are that cops were conducting patrol in the market district when they heard explosions along Spanish Town Road.

Upon investigation, the lawmen reportedly saw two men, one with a firearm in hand, running. A shootout ensued between the police and the gunman, who was subsequently shot and injured. A cop was also shot and injured in the incident.

The alleged gunman, who the police said is believed to be from Tivoli Gardens but remains unidentified, has since succumbed to his injuries. He is suspected to have been involved in the shooting of three persons along Spanish Town Road prior to him being accosted by the cops.

However, residents at the scene, including a relative of the deceased, have alleged police misconduct in the incident, and made their voices heard when news team arrived on the scene.
