Police Kills Man in St. Mary – Residents Protest for Justice

Nadiesha Brown, sister of the deceased, and Superintendent Dudley Scott, Commanding Officer for the St. Mary Police Division.

Residents of Charles Town in St. Mary are protesting after a member of the community was shot dead by the police on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as 30 year-old Romando Brown.

The police have cleared road blocks which were mounted in Charles Town and Prospect.

The police say they were on an operation when they stopped to speak with a man brandishing a knife.

They said an argument developed and the man was later shot.

But relatives and residents are disputing the police version of the incident.

Nadiesha Brown, a sister of the deceased, said her brother was in an argument with another man when the police approached and he pulled a knife. The police officer told him to drop the weapon but he refused and he was shot.

Superintendent Dudley Scott, Commanding Officer for the St. Mary Police Division, has said the police will be maintaining a presence in the area to restore calm.

He said INDECOM is investigating the incident.

“So I urge the citizens, anybody with anybody with any information at all, to let INDECOM have a statement from them as to what transpired,” he begged.
