One Dead, 17 injured after Car Mowed Down Passengers Exiting a Bus

One woman is dead and 17 other persons injured following a motor vehicle crash along the Mandela Highway, St Catherine on Wednesday night.

Reports are that at about 8:30 pm, a Toyota minibus filled with passengers was travelling from Spanish Town and, upon reaching a section of Mandela Highway, the driver of the bus pulled off the road to change a punctured tyre.

The passengers were reportedly told to get off the bus and, while leaving the bus, several of them were mowed down by another vehicle, a Nissan Bluebird, that ran off the road.

The injured were rushed to hospital where one member from the group, a female, was pronounced dead and 17 others admitted in hospital.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim. The conditions of the injured persons could not be confirmed at this time.

The driver of the Nissan vehicle has been apprehended and is in police custody where he is to be questioned.
