Man Accused of Murdering His Wife Captured in St Elizabeth – Omar Collymore
Omar Collymore, the man accused of being a co-conspirator in the murder of his wife and a taxi operator earlier this year, was apprehended Thursday during an early morning operation in St Elizabeth.
According to sources, Collymore was held by police at a guest house in the Junction area between 2:00 and 3:00am.
The arrest comes two days after police issued a warrant for Collymore’s arrest and made a public appeal for him to turn himself over to law enforcement officials.
Sources said, instead of following the instructions of the police, Collymore fled to St Elizabeth and was making plans to flee the island by boat.
The escape attempt reportedly comes just weeks after Collymore – amid the investigation into the January 2 double murder of his wife and a cab driver in Red Hills – was held at one of Jamaica’s airports trying to leave the island with fraudulent documents. Sources report, in that incident, Collymore was apprehended, fined and later released.
Questions have since been raised over how he was released in light of the pending investigations.
Simone Campbell-Collymore and taxi operator Winston Walters were shot dead about 4 pm on January 2 along Stanley Terrace, in Red Hills, St Andrew.
Reports are that the two had just arrived at an apartment building where Collymore lived, when four men travelling on two motorbikes rode up and opened fire hitting the two.
