JUTC Bus Driver Stabbed while Disarming Robber in Portmore
A driver employed to the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) was stabbed on Sunday evening, reportedly while attempting to disarm a gunman on one of the company’s buses in Greater Portmore, St Catherine.
In a tweet, the bus company said the driver, who was stabbed in the chest, has been hospitalised.
The JUTC said the gunman was held and the firearm recovered, and both were handed over to the police.
The JUTC has long been plagued by isolated instances of its drivers encountering gunmen while operating the company’s buses within the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR), which includes Portmore and Spanish Town in St Catherine.
