Bus Driver Shot Dead In Spanish Town, His Nephew Murdered a Month Before in the Same Bus Park
Yet another man was shot and killed in the Spanish Town bus park in the ‘Old Capital’ on Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses said that at about 8 am, a man dressed in khaki uniform and donning a knapsack, reportedly shot a bus operator as he was soliciting passengers for his vehicle which was parked in the Spanish Town bus park.
Police confirmed that the bus operator had been standing next to his vehicle when he was attacked. Alleged eyewitnesses said that the man’s attacker fled the area to an adjoining street where he boarded a Nissan make motor vehicle and sped away. The injured man was taken to the hospital to seek medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Bystanders said that the deceased’s nephew had been shot and killed about a month ago in the same bus park. The incident snarled traffic in the area as the bus park had been cordoned off by forensic investigators. A large contingent of police personnel is now in the town. This is the third shooting incident in the Spanish Town bus park since September.
In 2015, a police post had been established at the Spanish Town bus park as part of long-term measures to address crime in the area, including extortion by criminal gangs.
