60-y-o Taxi Driver Crash and Died after Slamming into a Bus in Westmoreland
A St Elizabeth man who operates a taxi service in Westmoreland was killed in a motor vehicle collision while on the job 0n Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Earle Stewart of Holland Bamboo in St Elizabeth.
Reports are that Stewart, who plies the Whitehouse to Savanna-la-Mar route in Westmoreland, was driving along the Bluefields main road in Westmoreland at about 7:00 a.m., when he lost control of the vehicle, which slammed into a bus.
The cabbie sustained multiple injuries and was trapped in the wrecked car, resulting in him having to be cut from the vehicle by firemen.
He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The taxi operator’s death brings to five, the number of persons who have died as a result of injuries they sustained in motor vehicle collisions in Westmoreland since the start of the year.
