20-y-o Man Shot Dead in St Ann, He Was Wanted by the Police
A 20-year-old man who police said was wanted for several crimes in the parish of St Ann was shot and killed by gunmen on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Patrick Myrie, alias Zeeks of Stony Hill in Lewis, St Ann.
Reports are that sometime at about 11 p.m. residents heard loud explosions coming from a section of the community.
A search was carried out by residents in the area and the body of Myrie was later found lying on a dirt path with multiple gunshot wounds.
A firearm was found near the body.
The illegal weapon was handed over to the police by residents.
The police source said that Myrie was a person of interest in a case where a newly acquired police service vehicle was shot with two officers on board on September 2.
Reports are that a group of officers were travelling from the community of Bamboo heading to St Ann’s Bay, when a man pulled a firearm and opened fire at the police vehicle.
The police took evasive action and returned fire. However, it was later discovered that other men were firing at the police. The windscreen of the police service vehicle was shattered and other sections damaged.
The vehicle was one of four that were handed over to the Area Two police at the divisional quarters by security minister Robert Montague on Wednesday, August 23.
The gunmen later escaped in bushes.
